The story of King Shaka is one of the most powerful and influential stories in Africa. Nomzamo Mbatha detailed the journey of Queen Nandi as the mother of Shaka Ilembe. The days of the debut of this historical drama are drawing nearer, and we are growing anxious by the minute to see it.
Many renditions have been told of this story in history books, and Shaka Ilembe will be the second time a series has been made about the Iconic Zulu warrior. The talented Henry Cele led the first one as Shaka Zulu, which is legendary.
There is also an animated short film currently streaming on Netflix about this story.
Nomzamo has been cast as the mother of the King, Queen Nandi of the Bhebhes.
The Coming 2 America star talks about some of the most crucial turning points in Queen Nandi’s life.
Nandi gave birth to Shaka with Senzangakhona Ka Jama out of wedlock. Nandi wasn’t welcome by the Jama family, and her family demanded 50 cows as payment for the damages from the Jamas.
Senzangakhona loved her, and for a while, Queen Nandi went to live with him, but their relationship deteriorated, and she was forced to leave after she gave birth to Nomcuba.
Senzangakhona’s family ill-treated Nandi, and his sister Mkabayi wanted her killed. Nandi ran back to her family, the Mhlongos, and she was ill-treated there, forcing her to take her kids and run again.
Queen Nandi went back to live in Elangeni, where she met Qwabe after Qwabes passed, Nandi left to live with the Mthethwa Clan, and she was warmly welcomed there, and King Dingiswayo became Shaka’s mentor.
Shaka turned into the greatest warrior, and when his father Senzangakhona perished, he took his mother Nandi back to KwaZulu, where Shaka became the King with Queen Nandi by his side.
Nomzamo is leading this stellar cast in telling this story. Shaka ILembe is a Bomb production that also produced Isibaya and Nomzamo is the Executive Producer in this epic series.
The story is set in the 1700s and has been in the works for six years. The production went in deep on this one, soliciting help with the history from the family of Shaka, Historians, King Goodwill Zwelithini and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi for accuracy in telling this story.
We are scheduled to start this tremendous 12-part journey of a lifetime in 2023 on the Mnet channel Mzansi Magic.
Viewers can expect an honest depiction of Shaka’s story because many have said that some of the stories about this epic story were not adequately researched, and they feel that now is the time to know the Real Shaka has come.
