Police and soldiers in Harare are ordering people to leave Harare City centre. The development comes after the security forces increased their presence at roads linking Harare suburbs and the city centre.
Police and soldiers are being seen patrolling in trucks and ordering people to leave the CBD immediately. “Budai mudhorobha,” they are heard from the loud speaker.
The motive behind the move is not yet known but speculation is rife that the security forces are on a mission ton assist MDC-T President Thokozani Khupe to take over the headquarters of Mnangagwa’s rival and MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.
The government is reportedly averting a retaliation by opposition supporters who vowed to defend the headquarters from an illegal takeover.
MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere posted, “Just stepped out of the High Court where I was arguing a case. Armed police and soldiers with a loud speaker telling us to clear the street. “Budai mudhorobha.”
