Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi has apologised for insensitive Facebook and Twitter posts that she posted from 202 when she joined the social network. She was speaking on the aftermath of the forced withdrawal of Miss South Africa 2020 entrant Bianca Schoombee.
Here is Zozibini Tunzi’s apology about Facebook posts
“I have actually have a lot on my mind this time i think most of it coming from a conversation that has been happening around the country with regards to a Miss South Africa entrant whose tweets were dug up and brought into light. Through those conversations i noticed a particular pattern where there were people who were using me as an example, who said ‘look at Zozibini Tunzi, she has no skeletons in her closet and that she should be the standard that all these women should look up to. It hit me because when i was taken aback and when i read those things I felt there must be wrong things that i have done in my life and im not perfect and cannot be taken as people present me to be. That scared be to used as a standard but it is understandable because of the position i hold in society. Because of that i took it upon myself to go on my Facebook and go back back to when i first created my account in 2012. I saw a lot of things that i was proud of that i had said about myself and others, the things that rang to who i am. Then i saw posts on Facebook that i had shared that were very insensitive that i should have never shared or posted.
I was disappointed in myself that i would have thought i was okay to share that. I want to apologise to anyone that is or was affected. I want to say those posts are in direct contrast to who i am and to everything that i stand for. And for the past 9 months i have made my voice very clear about the things that i stand for in telling women to be empowered and to take up space and to use their voice not only for the betterment of themselves but for the betterment of others. So i decided to make this video and to come here. I hope we can be mindful about the things that we say and the things that we share.”
