The so much awaited DNA results of Andile Bobo Mbuthu have finally came back with a positive identity, this means Andile’s body was recovered from Newton River. The DNA results came back 17 days after Bobo’s body was found and recovered.
Andile Bobo Mbuthu went missing in Hambanathi, Tongaat in Durban, he was found after a community and online outcry for SAPs to raise their efforts. This was after a video of Andile being assaulted to death at Magagula lodge surfaced on social media.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the murder however the seventh suspect saw his charges dropped for now since he is under aged. The remaining six others were remanded into custody facing double charges of kidnapping and murder.
While the nation was waiting for Andile Bobo Mbuthu’s DNA tests to confirm identity, plans to give him a dignified sendoff are already in place. Celebrity and television personality Somizi pledged to buy Andile Bobo’s coffin, he also urged fellow South Africans to contribute money.
It is alleged that there was questionable police infiltration in the Andile Mbuthu’s case. Tongaat senior police officers were allegedly given money and had a hand in disposing the dead body. Questionable circumstances and the hype around the case prompted Minister of Police Bhekhi Cele to personally visit the local police station and possibly the crime scene.
Arrested suspects revealed police brutality during their period in custody, they claimed that they were tortured and forced to sign papers they didn’t understand.
The trial of the suspects has been postponed for the second time due to lockdown transportation limitations.
South Africans continue to seek justice for Andile Mbuthu even after the DNA results.
