President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced churches will be allowed to open subject to strict regulations under level 3 of the lockdown in South Africa. Churches have previously been shut down since mid March when the state of national emergency was announced.
“The churches will open subject to strict regulations,” Ramaphosa said. “Only 50 people will be allowed. All attendants should wear masks.”
Ramaphosa also went on to declare church leaders as essential workers during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic as they will be counselling their congregants and providing them with emotional support.
