South Africa International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor has revealed that some South Africans who were repatriated home from what used to be covid-19 epicentres around the world have petitioned her to facilitate their return. The citizens are hoping to leave South Africa for countries that have opened up their economies.
121 South Africans arrives during mid March at Gateway International Airport at Polokwane in Limpopo from the city of Wuhan in Hubei Province in China. During the time China’s Wuhan city was the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic. The virus is alos believed to have started in the same city.

Members of the South African National Defence Force and South African Airways made the risky mission possible. The citizens were quarantined at the Ranch Hotel and Resort in Polokwane.
Mainland China is now close to becoming covid-19 free as it reported less than 50 cases in the last two weeks. Schools have opened and economic activity has already started.
The lockdown has been lifted in the city of Wuhan where as South Africa is still implementing strict lockdown regulations as cases are increasing at an increasing rate.
Cuban doctors who arrived in the country a month ago has warned the South African government about a second wave of infections if stricter lockdown rules are not implemented. The country experienced the largest number of infections in a single day on Sunday which peaked at 1,160. The increase in the number of cases have seen hopes of opening the economy fading.
