SADC Presidents are set to meet in Zimbabwe on the 19th of May 2020 to discuss the Mozambique security situation that has become dire due to terrorist insurgency. The meeting follows the previous engagement between Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi over terrorist activities in the isolated nothern parts of Mozambique.
52 young men were beheaded for refusing to join the Islamic Militants according to police spokesman Orlando Mudumane who made a statement on public broadcaster TVM. Since the insurgency started two years ago, dozens have been killed and over 200 000 people have been displaced.

The meeting was confirmed by Zimbabwe Minister of Foreign Affairs Subusiso Moyo. He published the following statement,
“H.E. President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa. the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics. Defence and Security Co-operation will on 19 May 2020 host the one-day Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government plus the Republic of Mozambique in Harare.
The Summit will be attended by H.E. President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Out-going Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. H.E. President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana. In-coming Chairperson of the Organ on Politics. Defence and Security Cooperation and H.E. President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi. President of the Republic of Mozambique. The purpose of the Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit plus Mozambique is to consider the urgent security situation in Mozambique following its formal request to the regional body.”
The meeting is mooted to be a formal request by Nyusi for troops from SADC countries as his country is being overwhelmed by the insurgency.
