In Pictures: The wife actor ‘Gwaza’ Siyabonga Shibe’s business empire stuns Mzansi.
Siyabonga Shibe’s character in The Wife is one we would love to hate as he plays a villainous role. The actor embodies the character of a vengeful Gwaza who only wants to avenge his brother and father’s death against the Zulu brothers. His character will take on any violent way possible to get his satisfaction.
In real life, though, Siyabonga Shibe couldn’t be more different from Gwaza in character. Siyabonga is a jolly good fella who is always happy and has a kind and good heart. The only thing that the two have in common is that they both love their families and would do anything for them.
Siyabonga’s upbringing was different from many other celebrities. This is because, unlike what most actors went through when they told their families of their love for acting, they ended up pursuing an education qualification in something else. However, for Shibe, his family supported his dreams from a young age, and this saw him being able to join community plays as a young boy.

He then pursued drama at Technikon Natal, which landed him roles in theatre plays. After graduation, he relocated to Johannesburg to pursue his career fully. A commercial about HIV/AIDS was his breakthrough, and after that, doors started to open for him. Shibe has landed roles in numerous productions in the soapville. These include Scandal, Uzalo, A good place and Ashes to Ashes.
He has had his hand in Filmography and has had roles in numerous productions to date. His first role as an actor in a big show was in the Feature film Stripes of a Hero. His next feature film was The Trail, where he was cast as Mad Dog. Recently he was part of the cast of Kagiso Modupe’s movie Thando which won six International Awards. Siyabonga was nominated for his role, but he did not win.
His son started following his father’s footsteps with a role on The Wife, where his father is playing Gwaza. Shibe expressed how proud he was to have his son work with him at such a young age.
