Ever since she called Kelly Rowland unpretty without makeup, Anele Mdoda could easily be one of the most attacked celebrities on South African Twitter. After the shocking news of Riky Rick’s death, many celebrities took to social media to send messages of condolences, and some came out to call out social media as the catalyst. One of the celebrities who decided to share her views is Anele Mdoda.
Anele wrote this on her page. “But carry on, guys. Carry on as you do.” This tweet generated a severe counterattack against her, as people felt she was accusing them of cyberbullying Riky, which is why he committed suicide.
Anele was called a hypocrite for this tweet, and tweeps didn’t hesitate to pull out her files to prove their claims. “Remember last year during the unrest in KZN. Anele hated every Zulu person. She’s a bully but doesn’t see it😔” said one user. And another one wrote, “Yet she’s calling other people ugly and won’t apologize, what’s good for the goose.”
This whole thing started in October of 2019 when Sizwe Dlomo mentioned that Kelly Rowland, a member of the American group Destiny’s Child, could be the most beautiful member.
Anele responded, saying that Kelly looks beautiful in makeup only, but remove the makeup. Well, to quote her, she said
“it’s ticketed; I have receipts.”
Since then, Anele’s response has been blasted, and she has been branded a cyberbully. The backlash has got so intense that even Americans weighed in on this issue.
This is not the only incident Anele is being called out for; a few days ago, she called products that people promote on prominent hashtags “rubbish.” This is why Anele implies that cyberbullying is wrong, causing people to call her a hypocrite. When she wrote her comment yesterday, she prepared herself for the backlash.
Yesterday things got seriously real on social media as people started paying attention to depression and its effects on celebrities in particular.
Minnie Dlamini also spoke about how she is also dealing with demons in her life, and Black Coffee also created great concern a day before Rick’s death when he posted a cryptic message about death in a now-deleted tweet.
Anele was counted amongst the most cyberbullied celebrities in South Africa, Pearl Thusi and Bonang Matheba.
