Gomora actor Teddy ‘Sicelo Buthelezi’ celebrates his birthday, reveals his actual age and gets Mzansi talking.
Award-winning actor Sicelo Buthelezi rose to fame by playing the role of Teddy Zondo on the Mzansi Magic soap opera, Gomora.
A high school soccer star who had his eyes set on playing for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana changed his career after falling in love with film production. Sicelo, a former Kaizer Chiefs youth team target, traded soccer boots for filming and drama. His gamble paid off after landing a role on Gomora to play the character of Teddy, which earned him the best upcoming actor at Royal Soapie awards in his debut year.
Teddy on Gomora
The Teddy character on Gomora is a high school-going teenager born with fetal alcohol syndrome caused by his alcoholic mother Zodwa and causes him to be a slow learner.
Teddy was adopted by social worker Gladys the wife of Gomora High School principal Melusi Dlamini and was friends with Ntokozo. Due to his discipline, Teddy found favour in Glady’s eye to the extent that she resisted letting him go when Zodwa claimed her son back after rehabilitation.
The arrival of Don, Teddy’s father, who had abandoned his family, gave him hope for a normal life and a fatherly figure for guidance. Despite all the efforts to reconnect with his father, Don proved to be cancer in Teddy’s life.
Sicelo Buthelezi‘s real age
Many questions have been asked regarding Sicelo ’Seekay’ Buthelezi’s actual age due to the Teddy character he plays on Gomora. Though Seekay (as he is known in the music circles) plays a teenage boy onscreen, he was born on 6 February 1999. He previously had kept his date of birth from the public domain but accidentally revealed it during his 23rd birthday. While celebrating his birthday, Teddy from Gomora penned down an inspirational birthday message for himself and declared the Jordan Year.
Sicelo Buthelezi dedicated his birthday to American businessman and former basketball player Michael Jordan who donned the jersey number 23 for Chicago Bulls. It is the Jordan Year indeed for Seekay as he was approached to play a role in an international series.
