Muvhango has been hit by a fake audition call out circulating social media. The popular soapie drama released a short message on their Instagram page alerting aspiring actors to disregard the call out. “Kindly note that this is fake news! #Muvhango is not currently casting, and we will never request money to cast anyone,” the statement read.
This was not received well by performers who are hungry to start a career as actors.
While they appreciated the warning, aspiring actors felt that Muvhango was not doing very well opening up the industry. The Soapie was dragged, and some thought that the person who started this fake news was opening the eyes of the production to do more auditions.
Muvhango was criticised for not opening up the industry and accused of doing private auditions as new faces appear every time on their screens without any news of auditions.
It’s not the first time fake audition call outs have appeared about the drama; last year, in August 2021, a phoney call-out was created at Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou. The SABC2 and Word of Mouth pages alerted people to be careful at that time.
While there are no auditions to look forward to, for now, you would be happy to know that there is a silver lining, though.
Duma Ka Ndlovu, the creator of the Soapie, runs a school for the performing arts, and this school will hold auditions for up and coming actors and actresses at his DNA school.
The auditions will be held at State Theatre in Johannesburg next week on the 9th of February 2022.
The auditions have a strict registration process due to Covid19, and people are urged to come in time. The auditions start at 9h30 until 15h00. The registration starts at 8 am sharp and will officially close at 12 midday.
The auditions will be open to all from 20 to 28, but graduates and those still in the process of attaining their tertiary education will be given first preference.
A script to perform is provided on the DNA Facebook page for all to read through. Those without tertiary education must bring a CV, and those with tertiary education must get a monologue from published authors like Zakes Mda and Ntozakhe Shange in addition to the script.
It’s not all gloom and doom; after all, at least there is still a chance for aspiring actors to break into the industry.
