Katlego Maboe broke into the television industry in 2009 as a presenter for the Afrikaans show DEKAT. Typically, native Afrikaans speakers or people of colour present for Afrikaans. For a black man like Katlego to nail the auditions and get the gigs, it meant he was imposing.
In the same year of his television debut, he presented 50/50 on SABC. Since Afrikaans is the least spoken language in the country, not too many people knew about him until 2010.
Expresso Morning Show
In October 2010, Maboe was one of the first presenters of the Expresso Morning Show. He charmed and dazzled Mzansi with his presenting flair and bubbly, energetic persona. Before everyone knew it, he was a household name and one of the most sought out presenters of Mzansi.
Presenting gigs
Since he was such hot property, the opportunities to hose more shows presented themselves. He then gave the shows Tropica Island of Treasure and Strictly Come Dancing.
Hosting Award Ceremonies
In Mzansi, a presenter is talented when he hosts a live event in front of millions of viewers. Presenters who have mastered the craft include Bonang Matheba, Somizi Mhlongo and many more. Katlego hosted the South African Film and Television Awards for two consecutive years. In 2016, he sponsored Minenhle Dlamini, and in 2017, he hosted the ceremony with Thando Thabethe.
Musical history
Now and then, Katlego gives his fans snippets of his singing. He has a soft melodic voice, perfect for pop and RnB music. When he was in university, a musical group called Flip a Coin asked him to join them, and he agreed. They made a lot of music together and ended up releasing three albums.
He is a chartered accountant.
Katlego Maboe graduated from North-West University. He attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Chartered Accounting. Whether he practices or not remains a mystery, but he seems more vested in his career in showbiz. Either way, he should be handling his finances.
Mountain climbing
Maboe has a passion for mountain climbing. He says he is not afraid of heights and loves being in the wild.
