The Cotton Fest is returning after 20 months. Young music and fashion enthusiasts around South Africa got super excited; Riky Rick announced the return of the two-day music festival, and the country went insane. What caused the festival to be on hold for such a long time was; the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Since the country’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa lifted the curfew; and lifted the majority of the bans, many events and festivals like Cotton Fest are slowly making a return. Of course, people miss doing things they couldn’t do from the dreadful year 2020, hence the excitement from all over the country.
Cotton Fest event
After his hit song Sidl’ukotini, Riky became the king of Kotini, which is slang for cotton. Kotini does not just refer to cotton fabric clothes, and it’s all types of fabric. Cotton Fest was introduced to us by rapper and record label owner Makhado, also known by his popular stage name Riky Rick. It takes place for two full days. People can explore through 3 sections; the music section, the fashion section and the sports section. With Riky Rick’s success and influence in the music and fashion scene, major brands collaborate with him when he’s hosting the event. What’s unique about Cotton Fest is that it’s the only festival in the country started by a Hip Hop star.
Cotton Fest 2022
Most tertiary institution students attend their respective college’s fresher’s bowl, which becomes the only major celebration dedicated to them. To make education more fashionable, Ricky Rick chose this route. Riky Rick dedicated this particular festival to the class of 2022.
What to expect on Cotton Fest 2022
This year, the Nafukwa rapper told potential attendees of the festival that there’d be three main stages. On the stages, over 100 musicians and DJ’s will be entertaining the crowd. Cotton Fest will be held on the 19th and 20th of March 2022. Tickets will be sold from the 31st of January 2022, and the price ranges from R200 to R600
