This year has been a rough year for the entertainment industry. The entertainment scene in South Africa has seen itself losing several entertainers. There is more sad news to soapie lovers in Mzanzi after it was announced that veteran actress ‘Maria’ Themsie Times has died.
The SABC 2 soapie’s publicity manager Kayleen Bessit has confirmed that Themsie died on Thursday. Fans of the show know her as Maria, the opinionated and sassy domestic helper for Hilda and Oubaas. The actress was part of the 7de Laan cast for 13 years. She had quit the soapie and was concentrating on the church at the time of her passing.
Themsie left the Afrikaans soapie in 2016, but the 7de Laan family still felt she was part of the team. The actress who has been dedicating her time to the church at the time of her passing was a mother of three and a grandmother to six. Times lived in Johannesburg with two of her grandchildren.

One of her daughters has announced that the veteran actress has passed on on her Instagram page. Condolences are pouring in for the family, and they are yet to disclose the cause of death. The actress was known as a prayerful woman and a family person.
Themsie has been in the entertainment industry since 1986. She was the youngest of seven siblings and was born in Eastern Cape. Her acting career was colourful. Her first role was in the 1986 film Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold as a nurse. She went on to play roles in Dangerous Ground, Stander, Beat the Drum and Cry The Beloved Country. Her soapville career had her playing Ma Jordan in the first season of Yizo Yizo and the Maria Zibula in 7de Laan, a role that she is most famous for.
Themsie, born in 1949, died at the age of 72 in Johannesburg. She is survived by her three children and grandchildren.
