The Republic is set to return to Mzansi Magic streets in 2022 as Season 2 has been renewed. The series was one of Mzansi’s favourites.
The Republic is quite self-explanatory by its name. The series is about a particular republic, and they tackle the issues of corruption and the government. The series is inspired by subjects that we face daily in South Africa. Tshedza Pictures produced it.
The Republic featured the famous Warren Masemola.
The series features a list of solemn faces. Florence Masebe plays the role of Lufuno, and Hlomla Dandala is Vice President. The famous Warren Masemola played the role of Thabanga.
Warren Masemola is the character that got a lot of people to watch. Firstly because He was portraying this character and he is so brilliant and good at what he does. And secondly, because the character he was playing was fighting corruption. So obviously, many were rooting for him to succeed in all he was doing.
The reason why South Africans are shocked about the renewal
It came as a shock that the channel decided to renew the show as many thought they would never, mainly because only a few of the shows that air on the Sunday 8 pm slot make their way back to the channel. The likes of Igazi by the Fergusons never made it back for another season. Many continue to wonder whether it’s because of the Ferguson’s themselves or the channel and that they don’t want to renew it. I guess it’s impossible to know it all. Even Saints and Sinners never made its way back to the channel, but maybe it’s because that show never had a considerable viewership for it even to be renewed. But then again, there are many others, which pushes people to wonder whether the problem is really with the production companies as everyone thinks or the channel and the renewals.
Die-hard fans are very excited about the channel’s decision to bring the series back. But many seem to want Warren Masemola in particular, except his character “died”, or so it seemed. Warren is the real reason why people are excited to have the show back, and the producers better bring his character from the dead if he did die.
