No beer, cigarettes or sniffing tobacco in Lockdown Level 4
Drinking and smoking will not be allowed during lockdown Level 4, Minister Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma said on Wednesday.
She revealed what while alcohol was not initially allowed in Level 4 Lockdown, for health reasons tobacco related products will be banned.
No beer, cigarettes or sniffing tobacco in Lockdown Level 4
‘Cigarettes and all tobacco related products including vaping will be prohibited during Level 4 lockdown” she said during a speech.
Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma says this move was after government consultations following a public outcry over the sale of cigarettes under lockdown level 4.
Dlamini Zuma said the government put motions against the sale of cigarettes into consideration and debated over it. The decision to restrict cigarettes and tobacco related product sales under lockdown level 4 come after debating the merits of relaxing the law vs health related reasons.
“The reasons are health-related. It hasn’t been allowed, it’s still not allowed – just like alcohol, all forms of liquor are not allowed in terms of sale”, she said.
What does the law says about brewing alcohol at home
Dlamini Zuma said brewing your own beer at home is not a crime if you consume it on your own. Brewing beer at your home becomes a crime the moment you sell, distribute it or give it to others.

Brewing beer at your home is not a crime, this is tradition we can’t determine or force people to stick to a certain diet. Brewing beer for household consumption is not a crime, It’s only a crime when you start distributing it or selling it. Sales of beer and any form of alcohol continue to be banned so as the sale of cigarettes and tobacco related products.
Opening Businesses in Level 4 Lockdown
•TV and radio broadcast will resume .
•Call centres will resume and expand services.
• Hardware service will re- open to the public
•Car repair work shops will re-open.
•Counseling and GBV services.
•Retail stores will open for winter clothes , bedding heating equipment.
•some sectors of trade unions will open.
•Sectors of the banking and financial will resume
•IT Communications and product +support services.
• Local production services for broadcast will resume.
•Medical home care services for patients and persons with disabilities will resume.
•All agriculture sectors will re – open.
Closed Businesses in Level 4 Lockdown
•Hair and nail services will not re- open, however products may be bought at retail stores.
•Beer, Cigarettes and tobacco related sales will be prohibited.
