Ramaphosa mask fumble incident – On Thursday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa was captured on live television struggling to put on his mask as he walked off the podium at the Union Buildings after updating the nation on lockdown way forward. It initially covered his eyes and nose before he managed to put it on correctly.
The mask fumble quickly got the best of South Africans as memes started to trend a few minutes after the address, what the nation really wanted when entering the fifth week of a total national lockdown.
The hashtags #facemaskchallenge and #CyrilMaskChallenge were trending on Friday as South Africans humored their president by posting captioned images of Ramaphosa and pictures of themselves in impromptu face coverings.

On his visit at Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Johannesburg with Gauteng premier David Makhura, President responded to South Africans making fun of him online. “For those who were laughing at me yesterday, let me tell you something, I am going to open a TV channel where I will teach people how to put on a mask,” he chuckled. “You can enroll.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on all South Africans to wear face masks as the lockdown is set to be gradually phased out from May 1.
