A man who is accused of spreading lockdown extension fake news in Zimbabwe has been arrested, according to Zimbabwe republic police. The man has been reported as Lovemore Zvekusekwa.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Lovemore Zvekusekwa (36) for circulating false information meant to cause alarm & despondency during the COVID19 national lockdown. He is being charged for contravening section 31(a)(i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23,” reads a statement by the ZRP
The arrest comes after President Mnangagwa directed the Central Intelligence Organisation to hunt or the man and get him to serve 20 years in prison, the maximum that can be levied on a fake news peddler under the lockdown rules and regulations.
