In Pictures: Mupedzanhamo flea market demolished
Mupadzanhamo market situated in Mbare known for cheaper and alternative clothing, groceries, farm produce and agricultural essentials has been demolished. Labeled illegal markets, the site provided the much need employment in an economy where unemployment rates have reached alarming rates.
Mupedzanhamo Hive of activity
The informal trading site established its name due to the affordability of goods and services they offered. Destruction of Mupedzanhamo Flea market and the absence of alternative trading points affects livelihoods of beneficiaries including their families and suppliers. Without a quick alternative solution there is a risk of increasing social ills in the society.
It’s not yet clear on who directed the Mupedzanhamo market destruction, with residents and vendors pointing fingers at the MDC run Harare City. However MDC legislatures likewise point the blame towards the government. Posting on social media platform Honorable Job Sikala said regime is using the 2008 Operation Murambatsvina tactics to destroy the Mupedzanhamo flea market.
the Mupedzanhamo Mbare brought DOWN under the disguise of COVID 19 Lockdown… With unemployment @ 99% in Zimbabwe hw then is an ordinary man going to survive zvakatooma kudai? The regime is back 2factory settings politics of MURAMBATSVINA 2008…

@Gonohorimuturik
The Council has plan B, to relocate them. As a Member of Parliament, knowing that your people deserve clean & well organised cities, you must support the initiative rather than politicising.
@ndiyaye
