Former Head of State Security Agency’s (SSA) Thulani Dlomo amongst civil unrest masterminders suspects
In the wake of the daring civil unrests that have plugged Mzansi, some unconfirmed sources have it that controversial former head of State Security Agency’s (SSA) rogue special operations unit, Thulani Dlomo is amongst the kingpins behind the FreeZuma protests.
No doubt in the wake of the daring protests Mzansi intelligence unit is connecting the dots. However, the Minister of police has since indicated that there are suspects which are under investigation. From the twelve suspects which have been implicated a highly placed source has it that Thulani Dlomo is amongst the suspects.
The unrest has seen South Africa, losing billon of dollars. Investigations are underway to determine if ex-State Security Agency agents close to former president Jacob Zuma are fanning unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
However, State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo indicated that they are investigations underway. In the mix of things, the minister didn’t reveal the names under investigation. According to News24, well-placed sources revealed that former top spook Thulani Dlomo had been implicated. The sources have also confirmed that he is being implicated as the ring leader.

He is fiercely loyal to Zuma. However back then in January Zondo Commission heard that Dlomo’s unit effectively operated as Zuma’s private militia. State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo indicated that they were investigating former senior SSA agents.
“We did receive such information, and we are investigating it. Any information that comes to us we investigate. We do an analysis and we shift fact from fiction. That information we are working on.
Our responsibility is to gather and collate information and package it properly for a client which is law enforcement or a client that so needs it,” she added.
Dlomo has eluded intelligence officials, who have tried to track him down, since his sacking. In 2019 President Cyril Ramaphosa recalled him as ambassador to Japan. However, this was a position to which he was appointed by Zuma in 2017.
But well-placed sources said he still maintained a parallel intelligence structure loyal to Zuma. Hundreds of millions of rands from SSA’s budget was spent on funding his rogue unit, buying vehicles and paying operators who were not officially on the SSA’s books. According to intelligence insiders, it was possible that many of these assets were still working under Dlomo.
