The Last Dance: SABC axes Live Amp after 25 seasons
After 25 seasons Live Amp will be airing its last season today. South African biggest music TV show, Live Amp has been announced and confirmed to be cancelled after decades of entertainment.
Little is known about the reasons behind the cancellation of the show of yet. However, it seems as if the presenters of the show were also not even aware that the show was coming to an end. The news of the cancellation was first shared by social media commentator Phil Mphela.
Taking it to Twitter Phil said, “After a decade on air, SABC1’s primetime music show Live Amp is ending. The new season-themed The Last Dance, is its farewell run. The final season premieres this Friday 9th July 2021 at 19:30.”
The tweet quickly gained traction after-show presenters indicated that they were not aware that it was canned.

However, DJ Speedsta who hosts the show alongside Lamiez Holworthy was shocked to get informed about the cancellation of the show on social media and not directly from SABC. Though, Speedsta later confirmed that the show is indeed over.
“Lol. Damn!! You really couldn’t wait for this one hey?! To tell you the truth, I was waiting for a Phil Mphela update about “1’s & 2’s” earlier in the year. Even tweeted you. All good. Yeah, we cancelled & outdated G,” SJ Speed said.
However in the mix of things Phil did apologise for sharing the tweet without informing the show’s hosts.
I’m sorry the channel and production company didn’t do you guys the courtesy of informing you before SABC shared the news. When a press statement lands in my inbox from a channel, I gotta run the story.
