Prince Buthelezi: “Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu was poisoned”
South Africa is mourning after learning of the death of the AmaZulu Queen. She lost her battle with what is yet to be established late last week. However little is known about what really went wrong but we can all agree that it’s Gods time. Her death comes barely a few weeks after the death of King Goodwill Zwelithini.
However, in the wake of her death rumour has it that the regent Queen was poisoned. These rumours have since flooded social media after it was revealed that she was once poisoned two years ago.
Zulu monarch traditional prime minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has revealed there were allegations the regent, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu, had been poisoned when she fell ill two years ago.
The queen passed away a few weeks after her husband King Goodwill Zwelithini, who drew his last breath on 12 March. She passed on at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Joburg on Thursday night, 29 April, after a long illness. She was appointed as Zulu regent a few weeks ago after her name appeared on the late King Zwelithini’s will to take over the throne until she passed it on to her eldest son, Prince Misuzulu (47).
“It must be clear she was not only ill now but she was ill from a few years back. To be honest she was up and down in hospitals. Well, shhe was even infected by Covid-19 but she survived,” Buthelezi in an interview with SABC News.
“At some point in time she even left the country to seek medical help at eSwatini next to her brother, King Mswati. She had gallbladder problems and when she was taken for dialysis, they also found she also had kidney failure,” he said.

However, these claims got Mzansi talking. Upon her death, she had been legally tasked with the responsibility of appointing the next heir to the AmaZulu throne.
Queen Mantfombi was the daughter of revered Swati monarch King Sobhuza II and sister to current King Mswati III. Her passing follows hot on the heels of King Zwelithini who passed on last month. She dies at a time where there has been bickering and bad blood in the royal family over who should be appointed the king with various names being touted as possible successors.
Well here are some of the interesting facts you might need to know about the late Zulu Queen. Growing up a Swazi princess, Mantfombi was betrothed to King Zwelithini. She tied the knot in 1997 with the late King. However, her union with the king made her be his great wife.
According to their tradition, her boy children would be considered first to take the throne. Despite having several wives Mantifombi’s children will assume the kingship of the Zulu nation.
After her, the king had five more wives and 28 children. According to eNCA article reports. However with his great wife the King had eight children together, five of them being sons and three daughters.
