Radio broadcasting legend Grant ‘Gentle Giant’ Shakoane has died. Tim Modise confirms the news. Many South Africans are saddened by the news and a gap the legend has left cannot be easily filled.
Details around his death are still to be confirmed. Close friend and radio personality Tim Modise posted on Twitter last week reaveling that Shakoane was in a serious condition at a hospital in Johannesburg.
Other famous radio and TV personalities have reacted to the sad news and social media is flooding with people paying their tributes to the famous Gentle Giant.
Grant Shakoane graced the mic early in the 80s on Metro FM. He introduced Soul and RnB to Sunday Radio and he was known for coming up with the original phrases like ‘Shibabadu’. The Gentle Giant also hosted a show on Vuma FM.
Mr Shakoane’s journey on Radio started as s translator at an advertising agency working at the SABC. He later decided to audition for a job on air at the broadcaster and this was the beginning of his marvelous journey in the industry.
