A Zimbabwean nurse in the UK fakes husband’s death in an attempt at insurance fraud
A Zimbabwean nurse based in the UK has been sentenced to two years probation. On top of that is 100 hours of community service. This is after the nurse faked her husband’s death and tried to claim insurance worth about USDD$552 000.
Thuile Bhebhe claimed her husband died in Zimbabwe in August 2016. She then submitted fake documents including a bogus death certificate. Nurse Bhebhe also claims she attended her husband’s funeral in Nkayi, Matebeleland North.
Unfortunately Nurse Bhebhe made some errors which led to her arrest. Aviva then decided t investigate the claim further. According to the city of London Police, Aviva discovered that Bhebhe’s husband is alive and well. This left Bhebhe with one choice but to plead guilty. On yjev15th of March this year, Bhebhe was sentenced to two years imprisonment, 100 hours of community service with a twenty-five day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

Jacquelin Kerwod, Claims Governance Manager for Individual Protection at Aviva said that Bhebhe’s act of dishonesty in attempting to claim almost half a million dollars by falsely claiming her husband’s death is very immoral.
“Fortunately, our expert investigators quickly detected the lies. We are pleased to see justice has been done. This is also very good news for our genuine clients, who ultimately bear the cost of fraud through their premiums. In this case, however, Mrs Bhebhe will pay the cost of her crime,” Kerwood added.
Detective Constable James Rafiq applauds for initially reviewing the claim and their swift action to refer the matter to the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED). Although Bhebhe showed remorse, the fraudulent actions have tainted years of commendable work as nurses for both her and her husband.
