ZRP to intensify lockdown measures
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges people to observe safety measures as fears of a 3rd COVID-19 wave intensify. The police is still enforcing lockdown regulations. This follows the lessening of level four lockdown measures by the government.
However, many people have become complacent in observing the safety measures like proper wearing of masks and social distancing. As a result the ZRP Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZBC news that the force will be intensifying enforcement of regulations meant to curb the spread of the virus.
“We have observed that some people are not wearing face masks and some people are moving around after the curfew for no reason. The ZRP will be arresting those who flout lockdown regulations,” he said.
Earlier this month, the government of Zimbabwe relaxed level four lockdown measures and allowed business to open if they adhere to the WHO regulations. This decision was based on the decrease of infections and deaths.

Unfortunately, a 3rd deadly wave is expected to hit the nation again forcing the police to make sure that people are safe. On the other hand Zimbabwe is still encouraging the citizens to get the vaccine. More COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Republic of China are expected to arrive soon. People seem not to trust the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. European countries have turned to the Chinese vaccine which the government believes will help people trust China’s and Russia’s vaccines. Zimbabwe still has lot of people to vaccinate with more than 90 % of the population still to receive the 1st jab.
Since 1 March 2021, more than 15 000 people have been arrested for failing to wear masks. Schools have opened around Zimbabwe today and the government is encouraging them to maintain the safety measures so that the school calendar is not disturbed.
