Another road collapses plunging two cars and a motorcycle into the sinkhole
Mwarazi Bridge linking Headlands and Makoni North was swept away by heavy rains. This resulted in a sinkhole plunging two cars and a motorcycle. This is the second road to collapse in Manicaland this rainy season. Unfortunately the other incident claimed the life of an innocent man from Chipinge.
People are blaming the authorities for not maintaining roads properly and using funds for other purposes. Others blame spiritual forces for the collapse of the Skyline-Chimanimani road collapse. Traditional leaders in the area also think people are abandoning their spirits and it is bringing bad luck to the area.
One of the cars to plunge belongs to Makoni Central Member of Parliament David Tekeshe. His Ford Ranger together with a Honda Fit belonging to Grandcore encountered severe damages. However, the whereabouts of the motorcycle is still unknown.
This road is the most trafficable route to key service centres such as the Grain Marketing Board depot in Chiendambuya and Chinyudze, Mayo Police Station, Chiendambuya Growth point and several clinics. Makoni North Member legislator Cde James Munetsi laments over the destruction of the bridge.
“This loss has cut off the constituency’s business with rest of Makoni District being affected. We appeal to the government to quickly help and restore the bridge so that services get back to normal,” he says

Heavy rains have been a blessing to the nation with bumper harvests expected. However, everything has its own consequences. In Manicaland mudslides have also destroyed houses and fields of many. The government of Zimbabwe in February declared all roads a state of disaster. The good news is that the government has started fixing roads in Manicaland and all other parts of Zimbabwe.
