COVID-19 vaccine free for Zimbabweans: Vice President
Acting President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga has publicly repudiated comments by the Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube. Zimbabwe will not charge citizens for the COVID-19 vaccine. Instead the vaccine will be free to all citizens who wish to be vaccinated.
The press statement by the Acting President reads,
“Let me take this opportunity to extend my warm greetings and wish you all a healthy well being, particularly so in this COVID-19 environment.”
“Consequently, an upward trend in confirmed cases, Active cases and deaths were recorded in Zimbabwe from November 2020 to date. In response to the growing threat to public health, the Government of Zimbabwe forged synergies with friendly states, civil society organizations, strategic partners, corporates and the general it of our Zimbabweans to combat the pandemic. We welcome and we are very grateful to the people of China for their donation of the COVID-19 vaccine to Zimbabwe. ”
” The landmark gesture will achieve a milestone in combating the pandemic. Further more the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe embarked on a deliberate programme to acquire more COVID-19 vaccines. My fellow Zimbabweans let me also reiterate that the Government of Zimbabwe will rollout COVID-19 vaccines for free. “

This comes after the Minister of Finance and Economic development had issued a statement saying that the vaccine will be sold. The ministry of Finance has issued a press statement backtracking to what the Minister said yesterday.
