South Africans are calling for the arrest of Communication Minister Stella Ndabeni for breaching lockdown rules. They are suggesting this suspension by President Cyril Ramaphosa is not enough.
The story
Ndabeni-Abrahams visited MP Mduduzi Manana’s residence and a picture her and Manana’s family having dinner was taken. The picture went viral on social media.
The response
The President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa responded by summoning Stella Ndabeni to his offices and subsequently suspended her for two months. The minister apologised for her actions and promised to abide by the suspenssion and urged South Africans to stay home.
South Africans responded negatively to the suspension. Some even quoted the statutory instrument penalty that is supposed to be levied on an offender:
For purposes of this Chapter any person who contravenes regulation 11B(1) a. (4). shall be guilty of an off.. and, on conviction, liable to a fine or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or to both such fine and imprisonment….
