High Court Judge Justice Clement Phiri succumbs to COVID-19
The High Court Judge Justice Clement Phiri has died from COVID-19. Fellow High Court Judges confirm the loss.
Justice Phiri died last night at his home in Marondera. He tested positive for COVID-19 a few days back. Justice Phiri’s family also tested positive for the virus but recovered.
Justice Phiri was appointed to the High Court bench in 2015. He was part of the first Judges in history of the judiciary to be appointed to the bench after going through public interviews. Before his appointment he served as a senior lawyer in private practice.

The vaccine rollout plan is expected to commence soon. This was said by the Minister of Health and Child Care, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. As of 31 January 2021, 115 new cases were recorded and 24 deaths noted. From 30 January to 31 January nine more people died. This calls for serious measures and for the society to exercise extra caution by staying at home.
The lockdown was extended to February 15 so that the spread of the virus is monitored. The likelihood of having a new variant in Zimbabwe as mentioned by the Vice President is scary. This is because the variant is usually more dangerous and lethal.
