Public neglects woman’s corpse at shopping centre due to Covid-19 fears.
An unidentified woman died at Pennywise shopping centre in Harare on Friday. The public did not assist her in fear of Covid-19.
The woman’s corpse was left unattended with flies hovering over the body. People conclude that she died due to an unknown cause. HMetro reports that at the scene there were no people due to fears of the pandemic and curfew regulations.
A witness confirms that the unknown woman was loitering around the shopping area. She was asking for food and part time jobs. Some shoppers gave her food as she was showing signs of sickness. Another witness present at the scene says that the dead woman was a hooker in the Avenues.
A nurse is said to have informed the woman that hospitals were full and there was no ambulance to ferry her to the hospital. People watched her die at the shopping area.
“We called the police from Highlands but response was slow. Others tried to raise alarm for assistance but the efforts were not fruitful.”, another witness claims.

Witnesses debate whether the cause of death is Covid-19 or something else. Another witness says,
“I don think this is Covid-19, but she arrived here and we bought her some food. We also gave her transport money. She was just loitering this place. She would sleep anywhere. At some point she could not speak or eat. Police from Highlands arrived on Friday but did not help as they did not have any protective clothing.”
The sister of the deceased went to the scene after she read the news and saw a picture of her sister in a WhatsApp group. She alleges her sister left home about a year ago. This woman also confirms that the deceased was a lady of the night in the Avenues.
