Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau is set to become one of the few South Africans to win a league in the top European Leagues.
Tau is taking home the medal after the Belgian Pro League became the ffirs football league in Europe to cancel the league as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
Club Brugge is set to be announced the winner of the season. The club is leading the race with 70 points followed by KAA Gent with 55 points.
Only one match was remaining in the season. The league is set to conduct play offs to decide the winner and the clubs to be relegated. Club Brugge is all but confirmed the winner with a 15 point gap on top o the league.
Club Brugge will be announced winners on 15 April once the relegation issues have been solved.
The league said in a statement, “The board of directors unanimously decided that it was not desirable, whatever the scenario envisaged, to continue the competition after 30 June.”
Percy Tau scored 3 goals and contributed 5 assists in 18 appearances this season. He also played in the Champions league 6 times and in the Europa League 2 times.
