THE eldest son of King Goodwill Zwelithini, Lethukuthula Zulu, was allegedly poisoned after taking four women to his flat during a night of mayhem.
Local publication Daily Sun saw a police statement recording the prince’s method of death as “poison.”
The police wrote that they also found two used condoms in his room, apart from other things of interest.
“His bedroom wardrobe was ransacked. There were two used condoms on the floor. In the sitting room was a lot of broken bottles of alcohol and a few bottles of liquor,” reads part of the statement by the investigating team
.
Lethukuthula Zulu (50) was found dead on the 6th of November in his flat at Graceland Complex in Northwold.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said they are investigating a case of murder.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Lethukuthula’s flatmate suspect four women that accompanied them during a night of drinking to be involved in the murder of the Zulu prince. He asked the publication not to publish his identity.
The two befriended two female friends at a popular drinking spot in Hill Street, Ferndale.
“The prince seemed to have been taken by one lady. At first, I did not see anything wrong when a suggestion was made that we should go back to our flat to continue having fun there.”
The flatmate tried to convince Lethukuthula to return to the flat alone as he had a premonition that something bad was going to happen.
As they were leaving the drinking spot, the two friends requested that they all go to with their two friends to the flat so they could get transport.
‘When we got to the flat I started feeling drowsy. I just remember trying to go into my room, but it seems I somehow passed out. This hardly ever happens to me when I drink. Everything that happened after that, the bottles breaking, and the house being turned upside down, was all an anomaly. When I woke up, he was unresponsive, and he could not wake up,” recalled the flat mate, crying.
Other sources within the complex admitted to having heard noises from the commotion coming out of the flat. They heard female and noises of glasses being broken.
The flatmate, who was visibly crying, blamed himself for letting the prince down as he always protected him.
The flatmate was found passed out by the security guard who first saw the Zulu prince’s dead body.
Cash amounting to R80,000 was stolen, and also their laptops and cellphones.
The prince was buried on 12 November at Emahhashini Cemetery in Nongoma and is survived by three children, his parents and four sisters.
The matter is still under investigation and the toxicity report is not yet out.
