The moment anyone mentions Dabula, the first thing that comes to mind are the words “kahle wena”. But apparently the Bhubesini Chief is so much more than a charmer boy with a preference for beautiful women. When he’s not dodging bullets from the Ndlovus and the Zungu’s Chris Radebe is creating some of our best story lines. He is one of the script brains behind some of our favourite soapies! The actor is part of the script teams of some of Mzansi’s favourite soapies.
Acting Career
Isithembiso’s viewers will remember Chris Radebe for his role as Romeo. He joined Isibaya in 2018 as the gangster jail bird Chief, Dabula. It was almost impossible for viewers to not fall in love with the character that Chris Radebe plays with excellence. In 2019, he played Ifalakhe’s title character the Mzansi Magic series. Chris Radebe admits that acting was never on the cards for him, it is just something that came along in his writing career.
The beginning of Chris Radebe’s writing career
His script writing career began when he passed Isidingo’s script test. Chris says that when he took the script writing test he was barely able to use the computer and would ask people to help him. However the opportunity soon disappeared as he had no computer to use as he went home to try and save for a computer with his security guard salary; something which took him 4 years. He came back to Johannesburg to find the script writing opportunity gone with the Head Script writer having moved to another show altogether. Chris Radebe went on to take the writing test for Rhythm City and that for him was the beginning of a beautiful and bright future.
Since then, besides the famed Dabula character, Chris Radebe has graced our screens behind the scenes as part of some of the best script writing teams. From The River to The Throne. He also received an invitation to write for The Queen from Phathu Makwarela but declined as he felt wasn’t ready at the time.
It is without doubt that we all love Chris Radebe on and off screen. Should Isibaya be cancelled, viewers will get to enjoy a part of him as a script writer.
