Zulu Prince Lethukuthula was murdered at his Joburg apartment, says police
Prince Lethukuthula Zulu, the son of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini was murdered at his Northwold apartment on Friday afternoon, the South African Police Service in Gauteng believes.
Prince Lethukuthula died at age 50 and was the eldest son born to Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Sibongile MaDlamini.
His friend was sleeping in one of the bedrooms when the guards discovered the Zulu Prince’s body.
Circumstances around his death have not been established but the police have had their say on the preliminary investigations.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters revealed on Monday that a murder docket had been opened after they became aware that valuables and money were stolen from his Graceland apartment in Northwold.
“The inquest docket that was opened at Honeydew SAPS on Friday afternoon, November 6, to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu at Graceland Residential Complex in Northwold, has now been converted to a murder case based on preliminary evidence emerging from the initial investigation,” Gauteng police spokesperson said.
The police are still waiting for post mortem results to establish the cause of death to guide them in their investigations.
“A case of theft has also been opened for investigation alongside the murder case following reports that a number of valuables and an undisclosed amount of cash had been stolen.
“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in this investigation, to contact Honeydew SAPS or their nearest police station, or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111,” she said.
IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi, King Zwelithini’s cousin, announced the death of the Prince on behalf of the king.
“The Zulu Royal Family and the Zulu Nation grieve this sudden and unexpected loss,” he said
The arrangements for the funeral are yet to be announced to the public.
