Senzo Meyiwa Murder: Police Want Kelly Khumalo Cellphone Records
Police officers investigating Senzo Meyiwa’s murder want access to Kelly Khumalo’s cellphone records.
This implies that police suspect that Kelly Khumalo was allegedly in communication with Meyiwa’s murderers.
A document doing the rounds on the internet suggests Kelly Khumalo borrowed money allegedly to pay hitmen. The document states that the lender was pestering Kelly Khumalo for the repayment of the loan. Police want to access cellphone records so as to get the statement from the lender asking for their money back.
Various reports suggest that the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Sipho Ngwenya confirmed the document was authentic. The reports state that Ngwenya said the document was accidentally leaked to the media and was not supposed to be in the public domain.
The leak comes after reports indicated that police were still investigating if any of the people in the house on the night Meyiwa was shot can be charged or linked to the murder.
Police have so far arrested Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Muzikawulahlelwa S’tembu Sibiya, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokosizeni Ziphozonke Maphisa, and Sifikuhle Nkani Ntuli in connection with Senzo Meyiwa’s murder. The five are facing murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition charges.
The five appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday with four of them refusing to enter the dock. Of the five only one had legal representation. The matter was postponed to 27 November 2020.
Meyiwa was shot at Kelly Khumalo’s house in East Rand on 26 October 2014. Those present during the shooting include Kelly Khumalo and her sister Zandile, Khumalo’s mother Gladys, Chicco Twala’s son Longwe Twala and his friends Mthokozisi Twala, and Tumelo Madlala.
