Uzalo: Masoja Msiza releases song I Am A Father on GBV
Uzalo’s Masoja Msiza has released a song on gender-based violence.
Msiza who portrays the character of Nkunzi on SABC 1’s Uzalo hopes the song will encourage change.
The actor who is also a poet he decided to team up with soft Afro-pop star and former cast member, Xolani Ncobeni, to make a song that will hopefully evoke change. The song titled I Am A Father speaks about the importance of a male in the lives of children and society as a whole. The song encourages men not to be evil but to be the ones protecting women and children from evil.
Speaking to Sowetan, Msiza expressed the importance of this song and how men need to relearn the importance of their role and what their role actually is.
He said, “Something has to change. When the idea of the song started I knew that poetry alone will not work on this song. I brought in Xolani to add a voice so that the song is catchy. I have realised that fathers are absent in terms of actions in their sons’ lives. You see, when women have problems it is easy [for them] to share their pain with others and be comforted. But with men, they bottle a lot of pain and frustrations because there are no platforms where they can speak about their pain. We live in modern days where there is a lack of family structures which could assist in such situations. The song encourages all men to sit down and come up with a way forward on how to stop this. We come to this world through women but it is the same men who kill them…”
