Gavin Watson still alive? Did Nomvula Mokonyane say Gavin Watson is not dead?
South Africans woke up to some weird news today as a video of former Gauteng Premier Nomvula Makonyane circulated, confirming a long-held belief that Gavin Watson is still alive.
In the video clip shared by one Tweep with the caption, “Nomvula dropped the File about Gavin Watson during the State capture enquiry and we overlooked,” Nomvula is asked about Watson.
She was giving oral evidence during the State Capture Enquiry.
Mokonyane responded that Gavin Watson ‘still is‘ her friend, just moments after her interviewer also asked if Gavin Watson ‘is‘ her friend.
While it could be a case of a slip of tongue, it is questionable to have two people make the same mistake, and for Mokonyane to use ‘is still’ rather than ‘is’ my friend in error.
There has always been a mystery surrounding his death.

Mokonyane was implicated in the Asbestos scandal as it emerged that she benefited from payments by underfire businessman Edwin Sodi.
An analysis of bank statements linked to corruption accused businessperson Edwin Sodi reveals that about R3,8 million was paid to entities owned by former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star Jimmy Tau between 2013 and last year.
On 14 September 2015, Tau through his company El Jefe Construction which received payment from Sodi’s Blackhead Consulting paid R200,000 towards a trip by Nomvula Mokonyane and her daughter. No details of the trip were provided.
