Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi was embarassed in Chegutu today by an angry mob.
The Justice Minister had visited a polling station in Chegutu ward 2 where by election are being held. Ziyambi is reported to have sought to talk to the elections presiding officer in private.
Award winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono expressed his disgust in the way Ziyambi conducted himself. He reiterated the need for political refforms in Zimbabwe to ensure such cases are not repeated.
He Twitted, “ZANUPF never ceases to amaze! Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi went to a polling station in Chegutu ward 2 where a by-election was being held and took away the Presiding Officer to his car! This is why I talk about the need for Political Reforms! ZANUPF will continue rigging!”
The MDC’s Rydes Machekera has won the Chegutu Urban Ward 2 local authority election with 240 votes, defeating the Zanu PF candidate who polled 184 votes.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Nick Mangwana attempted to spin the incident. “We hadn’t witnessed electoral violence in Zimbabwe in a while until yesterday in Chegutu when Hon Ziyambi who is also ZANU PF Mash West chair came face to face with aggression and aggravation from rowdy members of the opposition just for speaking to his party election agent. Why?” he questioned.
He was promptly responded to by MDC Allaince National Youth Assembly Chairperson Tererai Obey Sithole. “So in other words you are telling us that ZEC Officers are ZANUPF Polling agents? I say this because I was and the only person he took to his car was a ZEC personal. One more thing, there was no violence BUT resistance of manipulation. You’re a shameless liar!”
