Two lions killed a Limpopo lodge owner Arthur West Mathewson on Wednesday.
The unfortunate incident occurred at the Lion Tree Game Lodge in Hoedspruit as he was talking a walk around the safari lodge.
According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, two lionesses attacked Arthur along the route of a walk he took almost every day.
“The police and emergency services were activated. On arrival, the man was found with multiple injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.”
Arthur’s family has made a point of stating that his death was just an accident and not a fault of the lions. The lionesses have since been moved to another game lodge in the area.
The family is unsure of what triggered the lions to attack Mathewson as they have been disciplined for years.
