South Africa’s Zionist churches have vowed to go ahead with their Easter gathering despite the South African government’s ban on public gatherings.
The defiance was announced by South Africa Zionist Churches Spokesperson Bishop Bheki Ngcobo who spoke to SABC News. The Durban based church leader has urged members of the Zion church to gather in their number sot pray for South Africa during Easter holidays.
“We took a decision looking at the bible because we are controlled by the bible and he prophets of the bible. When we sat down as a structure we decided that the church must stand and pray for the country of all the problems affecting the country. the church is not only affected by the virus but many other problems. The country has so many issues that needs god intervention. We survived apartheid, we curved tsunami, cholera, malaria and many things and we are going to survive COVID-19 but not to go to Easter is not proper. What the government must do is to give us proper precautions on how to survive the disease,” Ngcobo said.
“The government should provide how to prevent transfer. We came to a conclusion that the church must stand up and claim the position because this is not only a flesh and blood but a spirit warfare, so we came to a point that we should go and worship during this time,” Ngcobo continued.
Asked why they are going against medical advice Ngcobo said,”God knows everything. I trust God more than a practitioner or a president. God must be worshiped during the time the president is saying we must not worship.
Asked why it is only his church that is going ahead with gathering whilst other churches have heeded the government directive, “Ngcobo said I’m talking on behalf of the Zion church which was started by Zionists. We have chose to go and praise the lord as we cannot be limited by any situation. Now this is the right time where the church should rise above the circumstances.”
Asked if he is being irresponsible he said, “If it was that way, the why are companies allowed to continue to operate? Companies are given precautions, why are they not being given to the church?”
Asked if he is going to defy the President: he said, “Yes we are going to defy the President. Companies have more than 1000 workers and mines are operating. I did not hear anything about mines. Its only the church that has been stopped. The will of God must prevail. God is there in the country of south Africa. God is above the president declaring the state of emergency. we are saying in our congregation we agreed that we are going to worship the lord in numbers. We cannot be stopped by the enemy. Why should we stay at home and obey the devil who making us stay at home and worship God.
