Zimbabwean truck driver disappears with R600k copper loaded truck
KwaZulu-Natal police are looking for a 32-year-old Zimbabwean truck driver, Simbarashe Petukai who disappeared with a truck loaded with R600 000 worth of copper.
Petukai vanished with the truckload on the 14th of July 2020.
On Tuesday, July 14, Petukai left his company in Bayhead, Durban, and was expected to deliver the container with serial number GLDU 514 4526 at the harbor, however, he allegedly hitched the trailer to another truck and disappeared with the load.
The registration on the trailer is ND 548 032 and it’s still missing.

The copper is valued at approximately R600 000 and was expected to be exported.
Simbarashe Petukai is a 32-year-old Zimbabwean national who was employed by his company for six months.
He is believed to be linked to a syndicate that targets shipping containers carrying high valued goods.

Meanwhile, Shertrans, the logistics company responsible for the load is offering R100 000 for information leading to the recovery of the stolen container and copper.

Previously Savannanews reported that Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi says his ministry disagrees with protesting truck drivers on the hiring of foreigners in the freight industry.
He was speaking to eNCA in response to a protest by truck drivers who are against the hiring of foreign nationals in the freight industry.
Nxesi said South Africa has international and regional obligations. He also said South Africa has to find a balance between national laws and international agreements. Nxesi said:
