ANC member Mapiti Matsena stabbed to death in his home
Police confirmed on Thursday that Gauteng MPL and ANC member Mapiti Matsena was attacked and stabbed to death in his home on Wednesday.
The legislature had already announced the death of Matsena.
According to a police statement, Matsena was with his family at their house at Holy Hock Street in Doornpoort when he was attacked and fatally stabbed in the chest on Wednesday evening.
Sinoville police arrived at the scene at 22:52, and found him in his bedroom. He was declared dead at the scene.
The police further reported Matsena had gone to the toilet when the suspect gained entry through the unlocked outside glassdoor.
Part of the police statement reads:
The suspect allegedly covered the deceased’s wife with a blanket. The wife ran out and called her son, Mokwele Matsena from the other house on the premises who witnessed the fight and saw the suspect stab his father with an unknown object in the chest. The suspect jumped the wall in front of the house on the south-western side
Matsena was the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and a member of the Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development and Property Management.
Tributes have been pouring in for Mutsena with Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe saying the late former Tshwane ANC deputy chairperson served both committees diligently and with great distinction.
“He always demonstrated commitment and dedication in his work as a public representative. Passionate about the safety of the residents of Gauteng, Matsena never missed an opportunity to express his convictions with law enforcement authorities regarding the safety of the people of Gauteng. He represented a rare breed of public representatives with a distinct ability to put political differences aside to achieve common objectives that served the best interests of citizens,” she said.
