A new generation of DStv Premiership players has moved to America, following in the footsteps of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe, who is living rather well in the States. These moves to the MLS come with a number of career and life opportunities, especially on the financial side.
Recent Transfers to MLS
The first player to make the move was Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who moved from Maritzburg United to Minnesota United. He was followed by Njabulo Blom, who moved to St. Louis, Olwethu Makhanya, who moved from Stellebosch FC to Philadelphia Union, and Cassius Mailula, who left Mamelodi Sundowns for Toronto FC.
Teenage Hadebe Making Big Money Abroad
Following the public release of player earnings in the American Major Soccer League, former Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe caught some attention. According to a report shared by iDiskiTimes’ Lorenz Kohler, the 27-year-old Hadebe is earning R2.1 million per month at Houston Dynamo.
“Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe earns $1,122,900 (R21.7 million) in base salary and $1,288,077 (R24.9 million) in guaranteed compensation per annum at Houston Dynamo,” the report said. “His monthly salary calculates to a massive R2.1 million.” This also means that Hadebe is earning R24 million a year.
