Trevor Noah might have left The Daily Show last year, but his association with the show won’t be coming to an end any time soon. After all, he was there for 7 years. And on Wednesday, he received an Emmy nomination for the work he did during his last season. On top of that, he also received a nomination for his Netflix special, I Wish You Would.
With the help of Benard Maumo, an expert in Entertainment and Casino Online Ranking, we’ll look at the two nominations and who the South African comedian is up against.
Outstanding Talk Series
Noah’s first nomination is in the category of Outstanding Talk Series. This nomination is for the work he did during his final season on The Daily Show. It is the third time he has been up for the same Emmy.
If you are not familiar with it, it is a satirical news show. It started in 2006, with Jon Stewart being the first host. Trevor then took on in 2015. His show remained very popular over the years he was hosting, and it was widely praised for Noah’s wit.
However, at the end of 2022, Trevor dropped a bombshell that he would be moving on. He is now hoping that an Emmy win for his final season will crown his time at the show.
Who is he facing off with?
The Outstanding Talk Series is always a tough one, and Noah is up against some strong competition.
- Jimmy Kimmel Live! – Jimmy Kimmel’s show has been running since 2003 and has won this particular award four times.
- Late Night with Seth Meyers – This one has been on the air since 2014 and has won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series twice.
- The Late Show with Stephen Colbert – Colbert’s show started in 2015, and has won one Emmy in this category.
- The Problem with Jon Stewart – This is the latest entrant, having started in 2022.
Although the competition is stiff, Noah has a good chance of winning the Emmy.
Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)
The Daily Show is not Trevor Noah’s only Emmy nomination. The comedian is also up for another award, Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).
This nomination is thanks to Trevor’s Netflix special, I Wish You Would. It marks the second time he is up for it, with the first time being when he released his first Netflix special, Son of Patricia.
Noah’s I Wish You Would stand-up was released on Netflix late last year, and was very well received. In our Interview, Benard Maumo from Casino Online Ranking says that the “special is a hilarious and thought-provoking masterpiece. It tackles a wide range of topics, from race and identity to the state of the world, with his trademark wit and insight.”
Who is He Up Against?
Here’s who Trevor is competing with.
- Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls – This is a documentary about the making of Lizzo’s reality show.
- Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You – This special is a tribute to the legendary TV producer.
- Wanda Sykes: Not Normal – Much like Trevor’s, this is a Netflix stand-up comedy special.
- Work in Progress – This is a comedy-drama series. It follows a therapist as she tries to help her patients.
All these specials are critically claimed, but Trevor Noah also has a good chance of winning.
What has Trevor Noah Up to After The Daily Show?
Trevor Noah hasn’t been idle after leaving The Daily Show. His primary goal for leaving was actually to work on his own projects, which he has been primarily doing through his production company, Noah Entertainment. The comedian is working on some shows for TV and also streaming. One of these will be in South Africa, and it goes by the name LOL: Last One Laughing. It is a remake of the popular Japanese show that also goes by the same name.
Besides this, at the start of the year, Trevor also hosted the Grammy Awards for the third time. And in June, he signed a Spotify deal that will see him create a weekly podcast. According to him, “This is going to be a really exciting opportunity to create a little more of what I’ve always created — and a lot more of what I haven’t created before.”
