A 25-year-old female teacher was strangled to death at her place on Monday in a suspected GBV case. The murder happened in Mogong village near Rustenburg where she lived alone.
Spokesperson for the provincial education department, Elias Malindi, says the young female teacher was allegedly strangled to death.
“She was originally from Makgobistad Village near Mafikeng and was a Life Science teacher at Makoba Secondary School.
“After completing an Education degree in 2018 at the North West University, Mafikeng Campus, she joined teaching at the beginning of 2019,” Malindi said.
Education Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Mmaphefo Matsemela, sent her condolences to the family.
“On behalf of the department, I would like to convey my deepest condolences to the family and the entire school community. This unfortunate incident happens at a time when our country is grappling from the chains of Gender Based Violence.
“It is one death too many. As a department, we are fighting a common enemy called Covid-19 and we do not expect to lose our teachers in this way.
I am appealing to the police to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous act. They should rot in jail”, she said.
