Cameroon based Saxophonist Manu Dibango has died of Coronavirus. Coronavirus has claimed another legend.
Who is Manu Dibango
Emmanuel N’Djoké Dibango was a Cameroon born musician and songwriter who played saxophone and vibraphone. He is manly regarded as a saxophone artist. He developed a musical style fusing jazz, funk, and traditional Cameroonian music. His father was a member of the Yabassi ethnic group, though his mother was a Duala.
Dibango was born on 2 December in 1933 in Douala, Cameroon. he was 86 years old when he died. He rose to prominence in the 1960s when he started his career. He is widely recognised in Africa and commands the same legendary status as Salif Keita.
Not the first musician death in Africa
Aurlus Mabélé, a congolese musician also died of coronavirus in France. Mabele was aged 67 when he died. His fans called him the king of soukous – a high-tempo Congolese dance music popular across Africa and France.
The news o his death were confirmed by Jimmy Ouetenou, his manager. The manager however did not confirm if it was actually corona virus that killed the legendary musician. He was admitted to hospital on Thursday and died on the same day
